HTML5 Video Overview

HTML5 is the fastest way to show your video online. Unlike the Flash videos that require a third party browser plug-in in order to play videos on the web. The HTML5 introduces the < video > tag to render web videos easier than ever before. Plus you will gain extra audience from other mobile handsets users, such as iPad, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc. All new browsers declare the support for HTML5 video too.

How to create HTML5 video for Joomla – The Usual Route?

First you need to find a HTML5 video converter and make three versions of your video – .OGG, MP4, WebM. Then, concerning you might have website visitors who are still using old web browsers, add a fallback to Flash version of your video, you need to build a Flash video player too in such case. At last, go to extract an image for poster and write batch lines of HTML5 code to combine all of the above. The coding might be a bit complicate, what’s worse the encoding of source videos to 4 different copies in different codec/formats could be a pain for most of us.

Hi Team, I have downloaded the trial version and I like the look and feel. Now sorry for my complete lack of following directions – once I have generated the files and the code from the menu (that was straight forward), how do I copy all the subfolders to my Joomla administration site and where exactly should the folders be housed. Do you have a step by step instruction on how to do this eg, go to Extensions – module etc etc. Sorry real novice at this but have to start somewhere.

      Hi Gerald,

You can use just the generated videos and/or the player skins.

      1. To use only the videos, check out this page:
      http://html5videoplayer.net/html5video/embed-html5-video-into-web-pages/

You can just upload the output three video clips(webm,mp4 and ogv) to
your hosting server, you can put them to anywhere you like as long as
you use the absolute URLs to them.

      2. To embed the output video player to Joomla
Upload all the video player files including videos, css style files, javascript files, etc that you can find from the output folder. You may have to fix bellow issues:
#1. Turn off the WYSIWYG editor such as the default TinyMCE which will cleanup some code, such as javascript. Or install a more powerful joomla content editor such as the JoomlaCK. You can download it from its official site:
#2. the generated video player has its own CSS style, it might not be compatible with your joomla page style. It is easy to customize the player css file, normally you can just comment out the background color parameters and set the position of the video wrapper, then you are ready to go.
#3. Sometimes you may have trouble loading the html5 video when you upload them to different sub-directories with your Joomla article, in such case, you need to change the file path to the video files in the js file.
